Alam
Buy ticketsCool, Palestinian teenage boy in Israel has an awakening when he meets his politically aware dream girl in class. Superb and award-winning debut.
Tamer (Mahmood Bakri) is a seventeen-year-old Palestinian with long hair and a sculpted face who lives in his grandfather's old house in Israel. He likes Liverpool's football team and mostly hangs out with his highschool mates. He’s not interested in politics at all. To impress the outspoken and politically engaged Maysaá (Sereen Khass), who is new in class, he agrees to exchange the school's Israeli flag for the Palestinian one (Alam = flag). It will happen on Israel's Independence Day. Immersive, and with strong undercurrents, Firas Khoury's stunning debut floats across the screen and shines a light on the contradictions of identity and forced forgetting.
