A Piece of Sky
Buy ticketsBrilliant drama set in the Alps with a surface as idyllic as the foil around fine chocolate and that dives deep into relations, lasting love, and the interaction between man, animal, and nature.
Strong love arises between the reticent newcomer Marco and the local Anna, a single-mother who runs a bar and delivers mail. The marriage that begins as a shimmering, tender, and unusually beautiful love story soon becomes clouded over by serious illness and suspicious behavior – all commented on by a type of Greek choir raised on Alp cheese instead of feta. The director Koch follows the rhythm of the seasons, dares to linger in the scenes, and makes the non-professional actors shine in this gem of a film, which takes place in a landscape as beautiful as it is difficult to master, and where the cattle are both larger and more in heat than on the chocolate wrapper. Switzerland’s Oscars contribution.
