The Spy

Ingrid Bolsø Berdal presents an impressive acting effort with this portrait of the film star Sonja Wigert in Jens Jonsson’s (The King of Ping Pong, GFF 2008) Norwegian Second World War drama The Spy.

The Norwegian-Swedish actress Sonja Wigert’s fate belongs to one of the more spectacular. As one of the war era’s most well-known film stars, she attracted the attention of the Nazis. By imprisoning her father they tied her to them. Her unique position, with access to the inner circles of the occupation powers in Norway, compelled the Swedish security services to recruit her as a spy, which transformed her existence into a dangerous balancing act. The Spy is a pressing and well-made drama that highlights the forces of resistance in both Norway and Sweden during the Second World War.
