1489
Buy ticketsHeartbreaking and painfully intimate, this film depicts the grief of parents and the filming sister over a soldier missing in action. Winner of the top award at the documentary film festival in Amsterdam.
In September 2020, the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Armenian enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh (or Artsakh in Armenian) flared up again. Soghomon, a 21-year-old student and musician who was conscripted, is one of the Armenian soldiers called to the front lines. But only seven days later he is reported missing in action. Using her mobile phone camera, his sister Shoghakat begins to film her parents' and her own desperate search and waiting, a process of grief that will stretch from days to months to years. 1489 is an incredibly powerful film that relentlessly delves into the inner landscape of grief. It was awarded Best Film by both the jury and film critics at the prestigious IDFA documentary festival.
