Criminologist Magnus Hörnqvist writes in the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond yearbook about punishment and how it has changed over time. Here he opens the screening of Jim Sheridan and David Merriman’s Re-Creation by reflecting on truth, rightful punishment, and other forms of retribution, with references reaching as far back as ancient Greece. Re-Creation is a hybrid docudrama in which a fictional jury is tasked with judging a real criminal case, based on a trial that never took place. We sit in on a staged jury deliberation; we scrutinize facts and testimonies and gradually realize how frighteningly easy it is for us to be manipulated by emotions and sensationalism.
To attend the lecture, which will be in Swedish, a ticket to the screening of Re-Creation is required.
