Youth (Homecoming)
Buy ticketsThe third and final installment of Wang Bing’s Youth Trilogy follows Chinese textile workers back to their rural hometowns and families.
As Chinese New Year approaches, many of the young workers in Zhili’s textile industry plan their journeys home—provided they can afford it. Most hail from rural areas, far from the industrial cities, and their trips by train and bus often take several days, traversing primitive and hazardous mountain roads. With love blooming, the celebrations aren’t limited to New Year; weddings are also on the agenda. By delving into the workers’ backgrounds and introducing us to their families in the countryside, the trilogy’s concluding chapter expands its depiction of contemporary Chinese society and cements its place as a documentary classic. During the festival, we’re also screening the second film in the trilogy, Youth (Hard Times).
