Ana lives with her mother, grandmother, and siblings on a small island in the Portuguese Azores. A growing gap separates the island's youth, who are hungry for freedom, and the older generation, for whom perseverance and self-sacrifice as virtues. Ana’s frustration grows alongside feelings of guilt for wanting more from life than girls and women are expected to. Her friendship with Luís,and his crowd, who are queer and unapologetic is a life-giving presence in Ana’s life, and so is Cloé, who arrives on a visit from Canada.
