Deaf, profound Ukrainian experiences the Russian invasion through this year’s most unforgettable lens.
Viktor lost his hearing at the age of five. The philosophical Ukrainian lives with his mother in Kharkiv and captures stunning photographs of the world around him. Inspired by the samurai’s worldview, he wants to defend his homeland when war breaks out but is denied due to his condition. Instead, he begins working as a war photographer. The Oscar-winning team behind Sound of Metal delivers hypnotic sound in this bold and life-affirming documentary, produced by Darren Aronofsky—each frame is a visual artwork. Silence is not the absence of something, it’s the presence. In it, he finds peace. It is an honour to meet Viktor, even for a moment. It makes a difference.
