Two Friends
Buy ticketsTwo 8-year-old boys navigate a growing religious divide in this beautiful and piercing portrait of friendship and childhood tragedy.
In 1992, Hindu fundamentalists demolished the Babri Masjid, an old Muslim monument. Although the violent event took place in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, its political and social ramifications were felt all across India. Hundreds of miles away, in a small village, Palash and Safi are the best of friends, despite the different religious affiliations of their families. In this gentle debut feature, Prasun Chatterjee examines the growing anger and hatred and anxiety, deliberately created by religious factions, as the two boys struggle to cope with the sectarian cracks that begin to emerge from within their previously harmonious community.
