The shared experience of the cinema is unmatched. But has contemporary scrolling on individual screens hurt audiences’ ability to participate in a collective show? In This Is Cinema! two-time Palme d’Or winning director Ruben Östlund wants to get to the bottom of the behaviors of modern-day cinemagoers.

During an exclusive event at Göteborg Film Festival, director Ruben Östlund will break the fourth wall and step into the movie theater; not only directing the film on the screen, but the audience in the cinema. The show lasts for about 3 hours 30 minutes. The film shown as part of the show is the Palme d’Or-winning Triangle of Sadness.

To be able to carry out the event, Ruben Östlund needs to get to know the audience in the venue.
