The Time it Takes
Buy ticketsGrand, noisy Italian cinephil epic about the magic of cinema and the relationship between a father and daughter – the director herself and her father, the master Luigi Comencini.
From childhood, Francesca is drawn into the magical world of film by her loving father, the great director. But a shimmering childhood turns into a dark teenage years. She falls into addiction, and their relationship falls apart. A joint trip to Paris becomes the turning point, and Francesca (Romana Maggiora Vergano, brilliant also in last year's festival favourite There’s Always a Tomorrow) embarks on a journey to find herself and her passion. Fellini-esque scenes from the filming of Pinocchio (1972) are interwoven with scenes portraying addiction and anxiety against the backdrop of the turbulent late '70s. Comencini would have made her father proud with this emotionally stirring large-and-small drama about falling and starting over, letting go but holding on.
