The Brink of Dreams
Buy ticketsThe dreams extend beyond society's rules in a film where young Egyptian women form a street theater group and challenge patriarchal norms.
Armed with great courage, they march through the streets to attract an audience to their performances. Persuasively, they question the limited space given to women in the conservative Christian society to which they belong, while passersby cast disapproving glances. The young women are united by their desire to do something different with their lives than what the traditional female role allows. But as they grow older, the societal expectations of marriage soon threaten the group's existence. Directors Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir have created an intimate and deeply engaging portrait of young women fighting for their right to self-determination. And even though the resistance they face sometimes feels overwhelming, their struggle proves to be far from in vain.
