Silent Trilogy
Buy ticketsFinnish master director Juho Kuosmanen (Compartment No. 6, GFF 2022) presents a burlesque and heartfelt tribute to silent film (and silent film music!) and people on the fringes of society in three wonderfully charming short films.
In the first film, Scrap-Mattila and the Beautiful Woman, we meet an elderly man forced to leave his home. He tries to sell his remaining belongings to emigrate to Sweden. The result is a bittersweet and darkly humorous tale. In the chaotic The Moonshiners, a remake of Finland’s first and now lost fiction film from 1907, we follow a pair of siblings who open a homemade liquor kiosk. Both customers and the police flock to the establishment, with a small pig playing a crucial role. In the concluding A Planet Far Away, a lighthouse keeper builds a rocket to reunite with her younger brother.
The premiere at Stora Teatern offers a truly unique experience: the films will be accompanied by live music performed by the Finnish big band Ykspihlajan Kino-orkesteri, bringing the spirit of silent cinema to life in spectacular fashion.
