Sanctuary Station
Buy ticketsA meditative journey into California’s forests, where women have embraced a life in harmony with nature and its many forms of life.
Deep within California’s forests, American documentary and experimental filmmaker Brigid McCaffrey has spent time with women striving to coexist with the natural world. Among them is poet and former nun Mary Norbert Körte, who has built herself a cabin beside an old logging track. Through fragmented audio recordings, we hear their stories of returning to and protecting the nature they cherish, while McCaffrey’s 16mm camera captures the unique character of the forests. Sanctuary Station is a life-affirming depiction of our bond with the natural world and a contemplative narrative about something we cannot afford to lose, intricately interwoven with Körte’s poetry.
