Phantom Youth
Buy ticketsLife-hungry girls escape from the countryside for a brighter future in Pristina in a boldly and confidently portrayed depiction of a lost generation in a chaotic country.
When cousins Zoé and Volta leave their hometown, their plans for the future are grand. However, it doesn't take many hours after they roll into Pristina in their beat-up car before they realize that nothing is as they thought it would be, neither at the dysfunctional university nor in Kosovar society. It's 2007, and Kosovo's path to independence is accompanied by strong political and social turmoil. 22-year-old rising star Luàna Bajrami (known for her role in Portrait of a Lady on Fire and the festival film A Tough Year) depicts a forgotten youth generation in a country searching for its identity. Incredibly fine performances by Albina Krasniqi and Aurora Ferati, as the two girls who drift apart at the same pace as their dreams shatter.
* Youth Jury Dragon Award nominee.
