Meet the Barbarians
Buy ticketsJulie Delpy dazzles across the board in her irresistible comedy about the turmoil that unfolds when a charming French village prepares to welcome a refugee family.
The residents of Paimpont in Brittany have proudly decided to host a refugee family from Ukraine. However, due to overwhelming demand for Ukrainian refugees, they are instead assigned a family from Syria. When the car carrying the Fayad family pulls up to the town hall, the celebratory flag-waving quickly falters, and some villagers begin to view the situation in a very different light. Suddenly, it becomes clear that not all refugees are perceived as equals. Festival honoree Julie Delpy, who serves as director, screenwriter, and stars as the village’s progressive teacher, masterfully addresses issues of integration, prejudice, and racism with a light touch, humor, and great warmth.
