Hoard
Buy ticketsA wild, beautiful, and deeply personal psychodrama, awarded at Venice, delving into themes of garbage, thwarted sexuality, and childhood trauma resurfacing.
The depiction of the peculiar and pleasure-filled romance between Maria and her significantly older 'foster brother' Michael is something one doesn't easily forget. Nor does one forget the upbringing that precedes it. Luna Carmoon's unconventional debut is divided between 1984 and 1994. First, we encounter seven-year-old Maria and her peculiar and psychotic hoarder mother, who, with boundless love, gives her daughter everything (she finds in the trash) and shields her from the outside world in their very own fairytale bubble. Then the hyperactive teenage Maria, now in a more functional foster home. There she meets Michael and they embark on a twisted, passionate relationship in a new bubble, all while the unprocessed wounds of childhood resurface.
