Fox Maxy follows up on acclaimed short films like Maat Means Land (2020) and F1ghting Looks Different 2 Me Know (2022) with an explosion of images and sounds in their feature film debut. Drawing from an extensive archive of personal home videos on both DV tapes and mobile phone camera, along with found footage, TV clips, animations, and a performance lecture, there is a deep dive into what it means to be human in our time through a dissection of sexual violence, trauma, mental health, and the relationship to the place one calls home. Gush, which premiered at last year's Sundance, is as surprising as it is challenging and endlessly fascinating, created by an artist worth keeping an eye on.
