Grand Tour
Buy ticketsA British bureaucrat in Southeast Asia escapes from a long-standing engagement and embarks on a winding grand tour across the continent.
The year is 1918, and after a seven-year engagement, Edward’s fiancée Molly is on her way to Rangoon to finally marry her husband-to-be. Before she arrives, Edward sneaks aboard a train bound for Singapore, but the train derails – as does so much else in Miguel Gomes’ (Arabian Nights trilogy, GFF 2016) teeming cinematic universe – and Edward and Molly soon find themselves caught in a loving yet bewildering game of cat-and-mouse with half of Asia as their playground. Past and present merge, the boundaries between fiction and essay dissolve. Gomes’ mind-expanding meditation on the inexplicable nature of our world is a unique cinematic experience.
