Buy ticketsCrossing through Bucharest with an overworked production assistant, Radu Jude scrutinizes the conditions of modern capitalism in Romania's critically acclaimed Oscar contender.
The Austrian company operating in Romania emphasizes individual responsibility for safety: "Wear a helmet!" To drive home the point, they hire the overworked production assistant Angela, tasking her with driving through Bucharest to find subjects for workplace accident scenarios in a safety film. Venting her frustration with life, the world, long days, and irate drivers, she channels her alter ego Bobita – a masculine, swinging caricature reminiscent of Andrew Tate – on TikTok. The director of Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (GFF 2022) returns with a cutting portrait of contemporary Romania, using satire to highlight society's most sensitive issues, from the exploitation of the gig economy to the manipulative power of moving images. The film was awarded the Special Jury Prize in Locarno.
