Anand, in his thirties, lives a simple but free urban life in Mumbai, having left his small, harsh hometown in western India. When his father passes away after a hospital stay, he must not only handle the bill but also undergo the traditional mourning process that precedes the funeral. Back in the village, his kind and understanding mother is there, along with a group of relatives who insist he must now get married, and an old childhood friend who, like him, has refused to find a wife.
