Before it Ends
Buy ticketsWhen a Danish school is transformed into a German refugee camp, the principal is faced with difficult moral dilemmas in a powerful historical drama and one of last year's major Danish cinema successes.
During the final stages of World War II, 250,000 German war refugees are transported to occupied Denmark, and the principal Jakob and his wife Lis are reluctantly forced to accommodate 500 of them in their small community college. As the Germans later retreat, the refugees are left to their fate in the overcrowded school premises, without food or medical care. Jakob and his family are forced to choose between witnessing people die in their backyard or betraying the Danish resistance. In Anders Walters' (I Kill Giants, GFF 2018) drama, inspired by true events, Pilou Asbæk plays the role of the conflicted principal in the turbulent aftermath of the war and a dark chapter in Danish history.
