Ramata-Toulaye Sy's first film is a sophisticated and incredibly stylish love story that challenges many a notion of power and helplessness.

Banel and Adama's love is so strong that nothing seems to threaten it. Together, they build a home, secluded from the others in their small village, intending for it to be the foundation and monument to their unwavering love. Their families and the other villagers witness their selfish choices with disapproving eyes - Adama, who refuses to accept the role of the village leader after his brother's death and Banel, who stubbornly resists the expectations to dedicate her life and fertility to the common good. As the village faces a devastating drought and the pressure on both of them to yield increases, it is Banel who stands to lose the most.
