A Common Sequence
Buy ticketsNature and AI, ownership and dispossession, tradition and innovation are explored in perceptive documentary about the politics and economics of extraction in the contemporary world.
When carp fish is introduced to Lake Patzcuaro in Mexico, it destroys the lab-grown ‘axolotis’ (salamanders) that used to thrive there, leading to problems for local fisherman and large scale emigration. Meanwhile in the US, AI is being trialled to harvest apples, work traditionally done by poor migrant labour, and on reservations the DNA of native Americans is being harvested for commercial databases. Filmed in art-house style, often in crepuscular light, directors Clark and Gibisser, who are experimental artists, present a unique vision of an AI-driven world.
