A gentle simplicity underlies this sublime adaptation of Irish writer, John McGahern’s acclaimed 2003 novel.

In the early 1980s, and after spending many successful years in London, writer Joe and artist Kate return home to a small lakeside village in Ireland. Most of the young have left the village for jobs elsewhere and just a few aging, quirky personalities remain. But Joe and Kate live their life in harmony with the passing seasons and embrace their surroundings with kindliness and optimism as they gently integrate into the local community. Calm and thoughtful, director Patrick Collins has delivered a delicate and beautiful exploration of life and death away from the angst and aggression of contemporary life.
