A magnificent film adaptation of Anni Blomqvist's acclaimed 19th-century Åland epic about the life of archipelago girl Maja on the wind-swept Stormskär.

When the somewhat shy and absent-minded Maja (portrayed by Amanda Jansson from Thin Blue Line) marries Janne, he wants them to settle on the outer skerries to be close to rich fishing grounds. The harsh and unforgiving skerries make every day a struggle for survival, but they also offer them a freedom where they can shape their own lives and existence. Over the years that follow, they will face many challenges, but these are interwoven with moments of happiness and love, and in time Maja discovers strengths she didn't believe she possessed. The rugged surroundings, the bare cliffs, the sea, and the changing seasons have a prominent place in Tiina Lymi's engaging and well-told epic drama.
