It's been two decades since the pet store employee Gracie (Moore) created a tabloid scandal in the small town of Savannah. She started a illegal relationship with thirteen-year-old Joe when she was 36, and gave birth to his child in prison. Two decades later, they still live together when TV star Elizabeth (Portman) knocks on their door. She's going to portray Gracie in an indie film and wants to get to know the woman she's going to depict. Old traumas and new passions are awakened in a Persona-scented psychodrama about bizarre celebrity culture and bloodthirsty artistry, directed by queer auteur and meldrama master Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven, Carol).
