Buy ticketsMother and daughter try to survive the aftermath of the financial crisis in hope of being able to hold onto the lifestyle they have long taken for granted.
Leonor has left London to move back home with mom, the widow María, in the Spanish coastal city Gijón, where store windows and boarded-up shops tell of the hard-hitting financial crisis. For María, who has lived off her husband’s income, it becomes a challenge to retain the standard she is accustomed to. But growing debts and threats of eviction force the mother and daughter to find creative and at times petty criminal solutions to stay afloat. Amalia Ulman has made a name as a multifaceted artist and here makes a feature film debut with a humorous, charming, and thought-provoking mother-and-daughter portrait – with herself and her mother Ale Ulman in the main roles.
