A star-studded drama about money, idealism, and lies that has been internationally acclaimed for its compelling ensemble acting and was awarded an Oscar nomination.

Jacob (Mads Mikkelsen) runs an orphanage in India that is threatened with closure, and to secure the future financing of the operation, he travels to Denmark to meet the billionaire Jörgen (Rolf Lassgård). However, Jörgen behaves strangely and insists that he attend his daughter's wedding. There, he is introduced to Jörgen's wife, who turns out to be Helene (Sidse Babett Knudsen), his love of life from decades earlier. Susanne Bier is a masterful character director, and when she portrays grand scenes of betrayal, lies, and ideals with actors like Sidse Babett Knudsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Rolf Lassgård, and Stine Fischer Christensen, the result becomes one of the strongest relationship dramas of contemporary Nordic cinema.
